The Vino Lip

I love a good lipstick, no matter the color. I’ve been on a coral kick lately, but dark, vampy lips really grabbed my attention at this year’s Met gala. Weren’t you invited too? However, this beauty trend shouldn’t be nailed to just one evening, as I’ve definitely seen it around more than once. Goth people don’t count. Examples of others who turned this look into success, and not a hot mess:

Rooney Mara

Sienna Miller

Katy Perry

Chanel Iman

Jessica Alba

So how does the seasoned beauty bitch recreate a dark berry lip without drinking too much red wine? Or, for that matter, any alcohol at all? It’s important to be sober remember that this dark lip is your look’s focal point. So go light on the rest of your makeup and avoid products that may look heavy, à la dark eyeliner or too-bright blush.

And while it’s likely that every lady’s shade will be a different one, below are a few picks to help you perfect your own vino lip. Cheers!

wet n wild’s MegaLast Lip Color in “Vamp it Up”

Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish Intense Wear Lipstick in “Bordeaux”

Smashbox’s Be Legendary Lipstick in “Black Plum”

NARS Pure Matte Lipstick in “Volga”

M·A·C Lipstick in “Hang-up”

Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge Tender Sheer in “Natural Wine”

  1. Sephora! I always go to Sephora now bucease their sales people are fantastic. They will help you with whatever you need for your makeup bag. Yea, it might be a bit expensive, but once you get a color nailed down and run out of what you get there, you can look for a similar shade in a lower price at other stores. I definitely recommend the Smashbox lip stain above. Serious long lasting.
